Lunar New Year seafood gifting: bundles that arrive cold and impress

Seafood carries the new-year wish for abundance, and Australian waters supply the pieces that read as generous on a reunion table. These are the bundles we pack, who each one suits, and the dates to order by.

Why seafood for the new year

Fish sounds like surplus, prawns suggest laughter, and a whole lobster is the centrepiece a host does not have to explain. A gift that lands the day before the reunion dinner becomes part of the meal rather than another parcel on the shelf.

Australian seafood also arrives with provenance a recipient can read: the catch region, the vessel or lease, and the date it was landed.

The bundles

The Reunion Centrepiece: one whole Southern Rock Lobster, blast-chilled within hours of landing. For the household hosting the dinner.

The Toast Box: two dozen Sydney Rock Oysters packed live on gel ice with a shucking knife. For friends who entertain.

The Family Table: Spencer Gulf king prawns with hand-dived Tasmanian scallops. The easiest bundle to share across a large table.

The Full Spread: lobster, prawns and oysters together, in one insulated Snazzi box with a message card.

Choosing by relationship

Parents and elders: the lobster or the full spread — visible generosity, nothing to prepare beyond steaming.

Business contacts: the oyster box, presented with the harvest date and a provenance card.

Friends and neighbours: prawns and scallops, portioned so nothing is wasted.

Timing and delivery

Air freight into Greater China tightens from about three weeks out from the new year. Order early and nominate the arrival date at checkout.

Every box carries a temperature logger; if the chain breaks, the order is refunded.

Gift messaging is printed on the card inside the box, so the recipient sees the sender before the seafood.
